Corporate Pledge Drive
What are you doing in your organization to create higher levels of morale and job satisfaction?
Birmingham Pledge Week is a perfect opportunity to showcase your organization's commitment to diversity and be a part of a week-long series of events in the Birmingham community designed to do the same.
We would like for your business/organization to be a part of this week of awareness and change by sponsoring a Birmingham Pledge drive in your business or operation.
The Annual Birmingham Pledge Week is part of an ongoing effort to support our community's efforts in the race relations arena. Programs, like the business/organization participation drives, are designed to
- educate about race relations and the history that makes up your community's current state of race relations;
- acknowledge strides your community has made toward healing and recognize our vision of the future for your city and the world;
- celebrate civil rights pioneers who suffered from past repression and prejudice.
If you want to organize a special activity or drive, all you have to do right now is follow this simple plan:
"Sign it, Live it" Drive Sample Plan
1. Obtain supervisor, manager or executive support to hold a Birmingham Pledge Week drive.
2. Identify a high traffic area of your building or office space and make plans to set up a "sign it" booth/table from the beginning to the end of Pledge Week..
3. Recruit volunteers to operate the area during high traffic times of day (could be morning, noon, evening or all times)
4. Publicize your drive. Here are some tips:
- Have a banner or multiple banners created to hang in key locations to promote your organization's support of the effort.
- Place fliers in break rooms or have distributed via interoffice mail
- Place posters (sample attached) near elevators, restrooms or other highly visible areas
- Write an article for your internal newsletter (sample attached)
- Post information about the drive on your intranet site or send notification via e-mail to targeted distribution lists.
- Send a note to supervisors and managers asking them to share information about the drive with their work group at staff meetings, etc.
5. Provide copies of the pledge, "I signed" stickers, Birmingham Pledge brochures and other supplemental information to volunteers who will operate the "Sign It" area and start collecting signatures. This will include a "signature log" to keep up with the number of signatures obtained. (These materials can be picked up at the Kick-off Party at the beginning of Pledge Week or mailed to you upon request)
6. Call The Birmingham Pledge Foundation every day beginning with Tuesday by 10 a.m. with your signature totals for the previous day. This element is very important. We will not report information about your organization's participation unless we discuss it with you first, but we will be keeping totals for all the organizations participating.
7. Report company/organization participation on a daily basis via intranet or other electronic communication.
